Cause and Effect of Pollutants on Our Lakes

Many Michigan lakes are adversely affected by the input of excess nutrients and road salts. Come and learn about the impacts of these pollutants to our local freshwater ecosystems and have a discussion of possible solutions.

Kellogg Bird Sanctuary Offers Free Admission on Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day by visiting the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary for free on Friday, April 22, 2011. Spend time outside and see birds along the shores of Wintergreen Lake and flying high overhead.

April is a busy time for birds and a great time to visit the Sanctuary. The geese, swans and herons are building nests and incubating eggs. By late April, some eggs begin to hatch.

Visitors can walk the path along Wintergreen Lake to get up close views of nesting. The path is stroller and wheelchair accessible. Feed the birds with corn available in the Sanctuary’s Resource Center.
